The Canadian Adaptive Platform Trial in Intensive Care (CAPTIC) program, funded by the CIHR-SPOR (Canadian Institute for Health Research – Strategy for Patient Oriented Research) seeks to introduce the model of the platform trial to Canadian critical care clinical research. Platform trials can study several treatments for a disease simultaneously and increase the chances that patients in the trial will receive treatments that seem to be performing better. They provide an opportunity for patients to play a role in accelerating knowledge and merging clinical research with quality improvement.
We are a team of clinicians and researchers based out of St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada dedicated to improving the standard of care in the intensive care unit (ICU) across Canada. We are developing a research model that is engaging patients, accelerating knowledge generation, and merging clinical research with quality improvement.
